Mr. Boris Ecker

Director, Disarmament and Counter-Terrorism Department

Boris Ecker serves as Director, Disarmament and Counter-Terrorism Department, at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic since May 2018. In addition to disarmament, arms-control, non-proliferation and counter-terrorism issues, the position covers also the execution of strategic export control and the Foreign Ministry’s participation in the National Security Analytical Center, Slovakia’s intelligence fusion center.

Before his current position, he served as political officer at the Slovak Embassy in Washington, D.C from 2015-2018. In this position, he covered US policies towards NATO, Russia and Ukraine. Before starting his overseas assignment, he worked as a Transatlantic Diplomatic Fellow at the Office of the Coordinator of U.S. Assistance to Europe in the European Affairs Bureau of the U.S. Department of State in 2015 where he administered the Emerging Donors Challenge Fund program. Mr. Ecker started his service in the Slovak Foreign Service in 2013 as desk officer for the United States.

Prior to joining Slovakia’s diplomatic service, he worked in the Public Diplomacy Division of NATO’s International Staff in Brussels from 2008-2013 where we covered defense spending and defense planning issues.

Mr. Ecker graduated from the Matej Bel University in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia.
